FitzGerald’s recent work has been characterized as ‘an attempt to convey vulnerability through images which are impermanent, transient and almost invisible’. In this beautifully produced, large-format book the artist presents a suite of five new paintings, fully illustrated with studio shots and many details. The distinguished critic, Caoimhín Mac Giolla Léith, contributes a rigorous essay which fully situates FitzGerald’s work in the context of international contemporary art practice.

Mary FitzGerald was born in Dublin in 1956. She has exhibited widely and is a member of Aosdana. Caoimhín Mac Giolla Léith has written many catalogues on contemporary art. A former judge of the Turner Prize, he lectures at UCD.
