The essays in this volume are the fruit of a major conference held in Maynooth on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the death at Avignon of fourteenth-century theologian Richard FitzRalph (c.1300–60), archbishop of Armagh (1346–60) and chancellor of the University of Oxford (1360). The book is divided into three sections that consider FitzRalph’s career at Oxford and Avignon as well as tracing his reputation and influence. The international cast of expert scholars throw new light on aspects of FitzRalph’s life, times, thought and contacts.
